Man arrested in beating of 11-year-old girl

A 47-year-old man has been charged with injury to a child after police say he chased down a young girl and beat her with a stick and a belt.
According to court documents, the girl wanted to do laundry but Calvin Williams, a relative, told her "she better not."
The girl left her home in the 4700 block of Kress and headed to the utility room to wash her clothes. Witnesses told police that Williams followed her and began beating her with a stick until it broke. A Houston police investigator said Williams then took off his belt and starting hitting the child, striking her in the face with the buckle.
The girl tried to get away but was followed and beaten by Williams, according to police.
The suspect eventually fled the scene and police were called. Williams was arrested and is being held in the Harris County jail on a $50,000 bond.
The girl suffered a broken lip and numerous welts on her arms.
